The Bar Society is focused on providing information and events for those interested in pursuing a legal career. Our full calendar of events is invaluable to not just aspiring barristers but to all student lawyers who want to forge a career in the Law. We have recently been recognised by the Bar Council as boasting the best calendar of events, as compared to other University societies throughout the country.
Annual events include a day at Blackstone Chambers, trips to the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal, evening presentations from Barristers such as Sara Masters QC (20 Essex Street), Richard Humphries QC (Francis Taylor Building) and Nick Green QC (Brick Court Chambers), to name but a few. We also host various competitions throughout the academic year, including Mock Trials (judged by the esteemed Professor Burch) and advocacy workshops.
Generally we meet as a society for a different event every fortnight. Often events are limited in capacity and so we adopt a first-come first-served policy. At all times though we maintain an open approach and if there is any information or advice about the Bar or the Law in general that students require, we do our best to ensure that this is provided. To keep up-to-date with our events, you can join our Facebook group or keep an eye-out within the School of Law for information.
The committee works hard throughout the year to ensure that as students we have the best possible chance of success in what is a very competitive profession. Student-run societies like ours are the best way of sharing experiences, information and advice – all fundamental to success as a lawyer.
If you require any more information, please feel free to contact any of our 2014/15 committee.
